Notice how now adays people are all wearing the same masks? It seems to me people feel like the have to fall under a sterotype. After awhile, they all start to look the same

I've heard the text before, but what a great idea it is to connect it to a bar code! Great job!!!

Adding the concept of unique with the barcode was a splendid idea!
You could have extended the idea by actually writing "unique" ([link]) with the barcode, but this stands excellent by this way too. Great work!

not bad.

I have my own thoughts about what you said though.

Belonging to the subkultures (ie goth, punk, raver, etc) you fall into a stereotype - of course. However, many of us embrace this stereotype - whether humorously or offensively. That in mind - it is innevitable that these stereotypes will follow us around, no matter how deep we are into our subkulture.

Are you saying that stereotypes are necesarily bad? Some of like the stereotypes. I t makes some of feel like we belong somewhere.

I mean, I can't fathom slaping on a pair of blue jeans and buying a non stereotypical music genre CD.

If stereotypes are bad, how do you propose we get rid of them? And once we do, wont there still be more sterotypes to spawn from other things?

I think that eliminating stereotypes and "trying to be unique" is rather inane. I think there are much more pressing issues that are closer to home that will affect you much more than all the goths being goth and all the preps being preps.

Anywho, I'm not attacking you. merely food for thought. However, had I not thought about the message in this piece, I would overall have to say that it was rather impacting despite its simplicity.

Thank you

Good point, stereotypes do suply a security blanket for some people, but steryotypes also spark alot of prejudice, an example lately in the United States would be Aribics. People look down on them or hate them because they automatically classify them as "terrorists". I do, on the other hand, agree that getting rid of sterotypes would be near impossible, but it has been done before. As my mom says "our generation is colorblind", my grandmother (who is your regular grandma, she bakes cookies and nits socks) She still looks down on aferican americans, simply because that is what she was taught, but those prejuducices are not found in her children or grandchildren. Steryotypes could be treated the same way. I honestly do believe that some day everyone will be considered equal.

Understandable, but your image does not provoke racial stereotypes. It shows a bar code - resembling products. The caption mentions that we are unique. This doesn't touch base with racial stereotypes, unfortunately. You may hae wanted that underlying meaning, but I highly doubt that the average joe could pick that up.

Once again, I'm not attacking you.

Thank you for responding that way. You are a much more resonable person - much better than many of the people on DA. It makes you a better person if you are more reasonable and openminded. I can see a rather intellectual future for you so long as you keep that up.

I agree, heheh, imagine that--I think exactly the same as you! How appropriate a comment for this deviation eh? it saddens me. But that's just the way it goes. The truly origional people are all dead. We are just a continuation. I like the concept. =)
